First phase of third round of elections complete, results will be announced on Saturday, says head of Supreme Electoral Commission.
The head of the Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC), Judge Abd El-Aziz Ibrahim, said on Friday that the results of the first phase of Egypt’s third round of parliamentary elections would be announced on Saturday.
The third round of voting took place in nine governorates: Meniya, Qalyoubeia, Gharbeia, Daqahliyah, South Sinai, North Sinai, El-Wady El-Gedeed, Matrouh and Qena.
SEC member Judge Yousry Abd El-Kareem stated on Friday at a press conference held in Cairo that the names of those who won would be announced on Saturday in addition to those who would be taking part in runoffs due to take place on 10 and 11 January.
The commission will also declare the number of votes gained by each electoral list. However, the commission will not be declaring on Saturday the number of seats gained by each party list. The seats gained by each party list can only be declared when round three of the election is completed and votes are repeated in districts where they had been postponed, which are due to take place on 17 and 18 January.
