A Voter’s Checklist for the Egyptian Elections

What you need choose?

As a voter you are expected to choose:

  • Two individual candidates to represent you
  • One list that you feel represents you

Who can I choose from the individual candidates?

You may choose any individual candidates in any combination:

  • One professional, one worker/farmer
  • Two professionals
  • Two workers/farmers

What’s in a list?

A list contains prioritized candidates that represent you. Each list has candidates from more than one party. The most likely candidate to win out of the list is the one at the top of the list.

What are the lists running?

The lists available include:

  • The Revolution Continues: This list contains the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, the Egyptian Socialist Party, Egypt Freedom, Equality and Development, the Egyptian Current and the Revolution’s Youth Coalition
  • Al-Nour: This list is also known as the Islamic Bloc, but the entry is under the name of Al-Nour Party. This list contains candidates from Al-Nour, Al-Asala, the Salafist Current, and the Building and Development Party.

What you need to do before voting?

  • Find out where you’re registered by visiting elections2011.eg or by calling 140.
  • Be prepared with your National Id number.
  • Make sure you know where to vote
  • Make sure you do your research about the candidates and lists you are going to choose.

What you need to do during voting?

You will be given two forms, one for choosing your individual candidates, one for choosing a list. Make absolutely sure that you place the form for the individuals in the box designated for individuals and place the form for the list in the box designated for the list. If you do not, your vote will be invalidated.
